Disability Insurance Attorney

Eric Buchanan has made a career of helping disabled people recover the benefits they deserve, and of helping policyholders recover insurance benefits that have been wrongfully denied. Eric has represented over 1,150 disabled people at Social Security hearings and has represented hundreds of people in disability insurance and ERISA benefits cases. He has represented many disabled people in appeals to federal courts in all three districts in Tennessee and he hasworked with local attorneys in several other states. Eric is certified as a Social Security Disability Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization.

For 2007-2008, Eric is Chair of the Social Security section of AAJ, the American Association for Justice (formerly ATLA, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), and he is past-Chair of the AAJ Health Care Finance and Disability Litigation Group. He is past-Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association Disability Law Section. Eric is also a life-time member of TAJ, the Tennessee Association for Justice (formerly the Tennessee Trial Lawyers), and is a member of their Board of Governors. Eric is a past-president of the Chattanooga Trial Lawyers and is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).

Eric is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Georgia, and is admitted in the all the Federal Courts in Tennessee and in Federal Courts in the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia. He is admitted to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. Eric is also admitted to the United States Supreme Court. He has spoken three times at the National Disability Law Conference held by NOSSCR. He has also twice spoken at the national conference of ATLA. Eric taught business law as an adjunct professor at Chattanooga State Technical Community College during the 2008 spring semester.

Eric graduated in the top 10% of his law school class at Washington & Lee University.  He was also inducted into the Order of the Coif and the ODK honorary leadership fraternity.  He is also a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute.  

Between college and law school, Eric Buchanan served five years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator, piloting P-3C Orion sub-hunting aircraft.  In addition to his piloting duties, Eric held several positions in his squadron, including serving as squadron legal officer for which he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal.
